Sonesta Resorts St. Maarten has appointed Bernard Mazet as its new General Manager, effective immediately. In the role, Mazet will oversee operations and provide strategic leadership for Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Sonesta Ocean Point, bringing more than 30 years of international hospitality experience across luxury and all-inclusive resorts worldwide.

Mazet most recently served as General Manager of Secrets St. Martin in the French West Indies, where he led day-to-day operations, focused on guest satisfaction, and managed multidisciplinary teams. His career spans senior leadership roles in complex, high-profile resort markets across the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and North America.

A Global Hospitality Background

Over the course of his career, Mazet has held executive positions with a wide range of globally recognized hospitality brands, including Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Waldorf Astoria, One&Only, Sandals Resorts, Viceroy, Peninsula Hotels, and AMR Resorts. His background includes extensive experience with both European Plan and all-inclusive operating models, giving him a broad perspective across multiple segments of the resort industry.

“Bernard is a proven leader with a deep understanding of both luxury and all-inclusive resort operations,” said Saro Spodaro, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Maho Group. “His global perspective, strong operational discipline, and commitment to building high-performing teams make him exceptionally well-suited to lead Sonesta Resorts St. Maarten as we continue to elevate the guest experience.”

Mazet is a graduate of École Hôtelière de Lausanne, where he earned an MBA in Hotel Management and Administration. He has also completed executive education programs at Cornell University and Harvard Business School. He is fluent in French, English, Spanish, and Italian, with intermediate proficiency in Russian, supporting his ability to lead diverse and multicultural teams.

Looking Ahead at Sonesta St. Maarten

In his new role, Mazet will focus on strengthening operational performance, fostering a culture of service excellence, and supporting the continued evolution of Sonesta Resorts St. Maarten as a leading Caribbean destination.

“I am honored to join Sonesta Resorts St. Maarten at such an exciting moment for both Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Sonesta Ocean Point,” Mazet said. “Together, these two distinctive resorts represent the breadth of what today’s Caribbean travelers are seeking, from vibrant, all-ages experiences to elevated, adults-only luxury. I look forward to working closely with our teams to enhance service excellence, elevate the guest journey across both properties, and continue positioning Sonesta as a leader in all-inclusive hospitality in St. Maarten.”
