Carnival Returns to Acapulco for the First Time Since 2010
Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Legend made an unexpected call in Acapulco, Mexico, on Saturday — marking the cruise line’s first visit to the iconic Pacific coastal city in more than 15 years.
The surprise stop came after the ship’s itinerary was altered due to a weather diversion. The visit was met with excitement on the ground as the ship’s return offered a glimpse of Acapulco’s reemerging cruise tourism scene. Carnival last visited the city in 2010.
Following the Acapulco call, Carnival Legend will continue its scheduled 16-day repositioning cruise from San Francisco to Galveston. Along the way, the ship will visit Puntarenas, Costa Rica; Cartagena, Colombia; and Grand Caymanbefore transiting the Panama Canal on Oct. 16 and arriving in Galveston on Oct. 22.
The call also serves as a preview of Carnival’s future plans for the destination. Earlier this year, the cruise line announced that Carnival Legend will return to Acapulco as part of a special Carnival Journeys sailing in 2027.
That 16-day voyage will depart Tampa on April 4, 2027, and sail to Seattle, featuring a full Panama Canal transit and calls on Cartagena and Santa Marta, Colombia; Cabo San Lucas, Mexico — and Acapulco.
