This Caribbean Beach Has a Legendary Bar, Charming Hotels and 3 Miles of Pink Sand

Rum punch. Turquoise water. Pink sand. Boutique hotels. Is there a better recipe, well, anywhere? The latest edition of Beach of the Day heads to one of our all-time favorites in the Caribbean: Pink Sand Beach on Harbour Island in The Bahamas.

One of the region’s great in-the-know spots, think of it as somewhere halfway between St Barth and Nantucket: a tiny, charming little island with historic hotels (we particularly love The Dunmore and The Landing), beloved restaurants and the kind of upscale-without-being-stuffy vibe that defines the best destinations (in fact, most people get around by golf cart, if that helps paint the picture).

But the biggest star here is the beach: three miles of magical pink sand on an impossibly wide beach, where the hotels are perched on dunes above shoreline.

There’s a kind of mystical quality here: when the sound of the surf and the feeling of the light breeze and the shimmer of pink hit your senses, you feel something.

You can experience it any number of ways — some hotels give you chairs and umbrellas down the steps to the sand. For others, particularly the in-town hotels like Valentines, they set up shop with their own beach clubs. Or you can find a watering hole like the Blue Bar at the Pink Sands Resort, pull up to the view with a Goombay Smash or a Bahama Mama and forget about the world.

It’s no surprise that this is one of the most beloved beaches in The Bahamas, no small feat when you have 700 islands and cays, all with multiple, memorable stretches of sand.

It’s just about perfect, and when it comes to Pink Sand Beaches, it’s pure gold.

How do you get to Harbour Island? Fly to North Eleuthera Interanational Airport (American Airlines has flights from Miami and Tradewind flies from Palm Beach County (that’s the best option by far, if you’re nearby).
