Winair’s St Maarten-Montserrat Flights Are Sticking Around
After what was, in effect, a trial period for regional carrier Winair’s new service between St Maarten and Montserrat in February and March, the new route is sticking around.
The new launch of flights was “successful,” the airline told Caribbean Journal, and now the route will have a “more structured flight schedule.”
It’s the latest expansion for what has been very robust growth for the St Maarten-based carrier, which has been adding new flights all over the region in the last year. That includes new routes from St Maarten to destinations like Saint Lucia.
“We are very happy to continue our partnership with Montserrat and to formalize our flight schedule,” said Hans van de Velde, CEO of Winair, “The positive response we received during our initial service period highlighted the crucial need for dependable airlift, and we are eager to continue supporting Montserrat’s accessibility and growth.”
The new flights will be around on a one-year basis, according to Montserrat Premier Reuben Meade.
The idea, Meade said, is to improve air access to the island, known as the Caribbean’s “Emerald Isle.”
So what’s the new schedule?
You will be able to fly between St Maarten and Montserrat two flights per week in May and June, with service rising to three times per week beginning July 1.
While Montserrat has been far off the travel radar for years (particularly in the wake of its tragic volcanic eruption back in 1997, it was once a popular spot, particularly within the music industry.
