Avianca Just Added a New Nonstop Route Between Puerto Rico and Costa Rica
Que rico. Fast-growing carrier Avianca has added a brand-new nonstop flight connecting Puerto Rico with Costa Rica, Caribbean Journal has learned. The new flight opens up a new source market for the sizzling tourism industry on the island of enchantment, with the only regularly-scheduled flight between Costa Rica and San Juan.
The new route, which officially stated operations on March 31, is running three times per week, with flights on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.
The Colombian carrier is operating the service on Airbus A320 aircraft that can carry up to 180 passengers. That works out to about 1,080 weekly seats on the San Juan-San Jose flight route.
San Juan has been growing as a regional air hub, with more and more carriers adding flights from San Juan to destinations both within the Caribbean and to Mexico and Central America.
The new flight is another boost for San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport, which saw blazing passenger traffic totals in 2024 and looks to be growing similarly so far in 2025. So what about prices? You can find fares on Avianca for as low as $368.41 roundtrip in the carrier’s most basic fare class.
