JetBlue Is Its Cutting Flights to This Caribbean Island
JetBlue has announced plans to cut its only flights to one island in the Caribbean, Caribbean Journal has learned.
JetBlue will no longer be operating service between New York and Poite-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, in a significant blow to the destination’s efforts to attract tourism from the United States.
The carrier will not be resuming service to the island for the winter season, which it had been doing for several years.
“These decisions are never easy,” JetBlue said in a statement to Caribbean Journal. Guadeloupe, the carrier said, was one of several markets that have “recently fallen short of our expectations.”

American Airlines will be the only American carrier operating service between the US and Guadeloupe, with its regular service between Miami and Pointe-a-Pitre.
The only other way to get from the US to Guadeloupe on a nonstop flight is with Air France’s periodic service to the Eastern Caribbean island from Miami.

The French Caribbean archipelago, known for having some of the best rums in the, world, has one of the most diverse tourism products in the region, from its impressive culinary scene to a strong yachting offering to an eco-tourism product noted for its volcanos and rainforests.
But its hotel stock, largely bereft of medium to large, international-standard branded resorts, has made it hard to attract American travelers.
Of course, that’s a shame, as it also has some lovely smaller resorts, from the boutique La Toubana to the recently-debuted Habitation Saint Charles, where we recently stayed.
