World-class chefs, magnificent resorts, pristine beaches and dynamic art galleries. Whether you’re looking for a classic sand-filled vacation, a foodie getaway, a golf week or a culture trip, Nassau Paradise Island has it all.

In the last few years, it’s been getting even easier to fly there, too. Southwest Airlines, JetBlue, United, Frontier, even Alaska Airlines have all significantly ramped up service to the capital of The Bahamas.

And now American Airlines is planning another big expansion to the destination, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Beginning in December. American will be expanding its important Chicago O’Hare-Nassau route to daily nonstop service, the carrier confirmed.

The expanded flights, which will operate on Boeing 737 aircraft, will take effect beginning on Dec. 5, 2024, in time for the peak winter season.

The expansion comes as Nassau Paradise Island continues to see soaring tourism numbers, with some 2 million combined air and cruise visitors so far in 2024, according to data from the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board.

It’s not a surprise: the twin-island destinations has become one of if not the most complete destination in the Caribbean: state-of-the-art megaresorts like Atlantis Paradise Island and Baha Mar; an enviable golf offering with tracks like the Ocean Club and Royal Blue; a number of entries in the 50 best restaurants in the Caribbean; a thriving, vibrant historic downtown (one that includes the recently-reinvigorated Queen’s Staircase) and a collection of lovely, charming boutique hotels anchored by the world-renowned Graycliff

But that’s just a part of the story. The destination has also carve out a unique niche as arguably the top art destination in the region right now: Antonius Roberts’ Hillside House, the outstanding National Art Gallery of The Bahamas and the impressive on-site art program led by John Cox at the Baha Mar — one that is working to become a new center for the regional art scene.
