Two Big Resorts Are Opening in a Little-Known Corner of Jamaica

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - July 19, 2024 - 4:05 pm

Montego Bay. Port Antonio. Ocho Rios. Negril. Green Island. The last one may not be very familiar to most travelers, even those who know Jamaica well. But the area on the northwestern coast of Jamaica is set to become a major new tourism hotspot.

Two big new resorts are opening their doors in Green Island this fall, Caribbean Journal has learned.

In a significant boost for the Green Island area of the northwestern shore of the island, the Princess Hotels brand is set to debut two new resorts: the Princess Grand and the adults-only Princess Senses The Mangrove.

The dual-resort debut is part of a broader 2,036-room hotel development in Green Island.

That will instantly make it one of the largest resorts in Jamaica.

For now, the two resorts will comprise 1,005 rooms and a casino, according to Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.

“I am excited to welcome Princess Resorts to Jamaica’s product offering,” Bartlett said. “This significant investment will create substantial employment opportunities and further solidify Jamaica’s position as a premier tourist destination.”

Princess Hotels owner Robert Cabrera Plana confirmed the September debut, saying “a hundred percent, we will open in September.”
