American Airlines is significantly ramping up its service to the British Virgin Islands for the holiday season, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Beginning Dec. 7, American will be increasing its BVI flight schedule to five peak-day flights starting Dec. 7.

That’s a big ramp-up of service to Tortola’s Beef Island International Airport. American’s Miami-Tortola flight is the only nonstop flight between the mainland United States and the British Virgin Islands.

American will be operating the flights on its Embraer 175 aircraft, which have been at the core of its strategy to cater to smaller, harder-to-reach destinations like Anguilla and Dominica.

British Virgin Islands tourism has been lagging many of its Caribbean competitors in the post-pandemic period, and this should help boost its efforts to recover.
