Getting to the French Caribbean island of Martinique isn’t always easy. While American Airlines flies nonstop between Miami and Martinique, it’s only during part of the year, and even that can be sporadic.

But fast-expanding St Maarten-based carrier Winair has added a compelling new option.

The airline has announced plans to launch new service between St Maarten and Martinique, opening up Martinique to the vast number of flights that operate between the United States and St Maarten.

Beginning April 1, Winair will begin operating flights twice weekly between St Maarten and Fort de France, Martinique.

On Wednesdays and Sundays, Winair will fly from St Maarten to Martinique; on Thursdays and Mondays the airline will fly from Martinique to St Maarten.

“We are very happy that with this new connection, we open a route that is important for the inhabitants of the French part of St. Maarten and St. Barths,” said Hans van de Velde, CEO of Winair.
