Another week, another new Caribbean route for Frontier Airlines, the ultra-low-cost carrier that is adding new flights to the region faster than any other airline right now. This week, it was Jamaica, which welcomed Frontier’s first-ever nonstop flight between Dallas-Fort Worth and Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The new nonstop route is operating three times each week between Dallas-Fort Worth and Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport, in another lift for one of the hottest tourism destinations in the Caribbean.
“We are very pleased to continue expanding our partnership with Frontier Airlines,” said Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism. “The launch of this new non-stop flight from a key Southern U.S. gateway supports the strong rebound of Jamaica’s tourism sector as we are returning visitor arrivals numbers to pre-pandemic growth levels.”
After several years of rapid expansion in the Caribbean, particularly to Jamaica, Frontier now operates 10 different routes between the United States and Jamaica: that includes flights to Montego Bay from Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Miami, Orlando, Philadelphia and St. Louis to Montego Bay.
Frontier is also running nonstop flights from both Atlanta and Miami to Jamaica’s capital, Kingston, which has quietly been developing into a new kind of urban tourism destination in the Caribbean.
“Our recent growth in Jamaica is unparalleled,” said Daniel Shurz, senior vice president of commercial, Frontier Airlines. “We’re thrilled to provide an opportunity for more people to enjoy this tropical paradise.”
It’s yet another expansion to Montego Bay for Frontier, which launched new routes from Denver, Chicago and St. Louis back in February.
So what’s new in Montego Bay?
The biggest story in the destination remains the new Eclipse at Half Moon, the new resort at the legendary Half Moon, the 57-room resort that has quickly become one of the top luxury hotels anywhere in the Caribbean.
That comes in addition to the buzzing S Hotel in Montego Bay, the north-coast outpost of the popular Spanish Court hotel in Kingston, and the increasingly popular Zoetry Montego Bay, among others. For those traveling with kids, the Jamaican hotspot is home to an increasing number of high-quality family-friendly all-inclusives.
Another new resort is opening in the area later this year, with the planned debut of Marriott’s new Royalton Blue Waters resort.
Jamaica is coming off what officials are dubbing a record-breaking winter season, one that will be followed by what Bartlett predicted to Caribbean Journal would be a “humongous” summer season for tourist arrivals.
