The Dutch Caribbean Has a Cool New Boutique Resort

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - April 10, 2023

A very cool new boutique resort is opening its doors this month in the Dutch Caribbean, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The new Belnem House Boutique Resort is officially opening its doors on April 22 on the island of Bonaire, according to the property’s website.

The 14-room resort is set just a bit south of the island’s famous Te Amo Beach, in close proximity to the island’s Flamingo International Airport.

The design-forward hotel has a large communal pool, a tropical courtyard garden and a mix of poolside rooms, penthouses and suites.

The rooms are all about indoor-outdoor living.

The penthouses, also home to two bedrooms each, have nearly 1000 square feet of living space, with large glass harmonica doors that open up to indoor-outdoor spaces.

The poolside rooms are the most unique offering: they’re the closest thing Bonaire has to full-fledged swim-out rooms: on the ground floor, they are set right at the edge of the pools, with a cool indoor-outdoor layout, two bedrooms and open kitchens.

The resort includes a number of “poolside” rooms.

There are also some on the second floor overlooking the pool.

It’s classic Bonaire style, meaning it’s all about independent travel and exploration, the sort of resort where you’ll go the market, use your kitchen, and experience Bonaire living in earnest.

The hotel is led by operations manager Britt Thomassen, the former executive chef at Bonaire’s Harbour Village Resort.

It’s the newest addition to an island that has been seeing a surge in visitor arrivals since last year, eclipsing its pre-pandemic totals and creating a new kind of buzz in the Dutch Caribbean.

Bonaire is projecting an even stronger summer buoyed by the return of the Bonaire Rum Week festival from June 12-17, the premier rum festival in all of the southern Caribbean.
