Passenger traffic at Cancun International Airport surged in 2022, with a nearly 36 percent jump over the previous year, according to newly-released data from ASUR, which manages the airport.

Passenger traffic in Cancun totaled 30.34 million last year, which also represented a 19.1 percent improvement over 2019, before the onset of the pandemic.

The surge included a 2.93 million passengers in December, a 27.8 percent improvement over 2019.

Passenger numbers do not include transit passengers.

Cancun has been one of the world’s hottest destinations since the pandemic, with a growing wave of new airlift particularly from cities in the United States.

ASUR manages a portfolio of airports in Mexico, Colombia and Puerto Rico.
