St Croix’s Top Boutique Hotel Has a New Executive Chef

St Croix’s top boutique hotel has named a new chef to lead its culinary program, Caribbean Journal has learned. 

The Fred hotel in Frederiksted has named St Croix native Michael Matthews as its new executive chef. 

Matthews, who was born and raised in St Croix, is one of the top chefs in the region, having won the Taste of St Croix culinary festival on four separate occasions.

Matthews is also a member of the St Croix Culinary Team, with which he has competed in Miami’s Taste of the Caribbean event. 

Matthews is already in the process of curating a new menu for the hotel that will be released soon. 

“He’s a farmer at heart and plans to bring that love into the restaurant The Fred,” the hotel said in a statement.
