The Greencastle Estate hotel in Jamaica is shuttering, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The popular eco and nature resort is closing its doors on Sept. 22, according to a statement from the property.

The move comes as the hotel was just sold, and the current owners are retiring.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support over the last few years and particularly the birding community and birding companies worldwide who chose Greencastle for their group tours and accommodation,” the hotel said in a statement.

It is possible that the hotel may reopen next year, the hotel said.

“This will become clearer when the new owners have formulated their future plans,” it said. “We would like to thank our wonderful staff for their loyalty and devotion to Greencastle, some of whom are to to be retained under the new ownership.”
