A New Executive Director for the Puerto Rico Tourism Company

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - January 12, 2021 - 3:20 pm

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company has a new director, following the election of Puerto Rico’s new Governor, Pedro Pierluisi.

Carlos Mercado Santiago has been appointed to the role, succeeding Carla Campos, who had served as executive director for four years.

Mercado had been serving as the Puerto Rico Tourism Company’s deputy director. He is also a former director of the Puerto Rico Trade and Export Company.

Mercado arrives to the position as Puerto Rico’s tourism industry remains technically closed, although many hotels and hospitality business are open and operating and visitors can come to the island if they comply with Puerto Rico’s health protocols.

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company, which has been around for more than a half century, is focused on the island’s tourism development.

Discover Puerto Rico, which was created in 2017, is Puerto Rico’s destination marketing organization. That organization is led by Brad Dean.
