JetBlue Postpones Guyana Launch Amid Coronavirus

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - March 20, 2020 - 2:37 pm

JetBlue Airways has delayed its planned launch of new service to Guyana, the result of the coronavirus pandemic.

JetBlue, which had been planning to launch flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Georgetown, Guyana on April 2, will now be launching the service in November, according to a statement from the government of Guyana.

Both of Guyana’s airports, Cheddi Jagan International Airport and Eugene F. Correia International Airport, are currently closed to international flights curb the spread of the virus, according to Lt. Col. Egbert Field, Director General of Guyana’s Civil Aviation Authority.

Both airports are permitting outgoing, cargo and medivac flights, however.

Both airports are still servicing local flights within Guyana, however.

The postponement comes as JetBlue just launched a new route to the Caribbean, its first-ever service to Guadeloupe, now on hold as the French Caribbean department has shut down international flights to stop the spread of coronavirus.
