St Lucia’s Big Cruise Port Expansion

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - August 13, 2017 - 4:02 pm

St. Lucia is making progress on a significant expansion project at Port Castries.

The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority is construction an extension of Cruise Ship Berth 1 at Castries’ Pointe Seraphine, aiming to facilitate the mooring of Quantum-class vessels in wind speeds up to 40 knots.

The current berth will be extended by 160 feet, and by 800 feet in width.

The project is scheduled to be completed by early December, with the fully-expanded berth ready for the larger vessels by January 2018.

Castries’ Pointe Seraphine Berth 2 is still open and ready to receive smaller ships when they begin arriving for the season in October.

St. Lucia is expecting its highest-ever number of cruise passengers in the 2017-2018 season, with a projected total of more than 800,000.
