Lionel Messi Honeymoons in Antigua and Barbuda, St. Barth

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - July 9, 2017

Football superstar Lionel Messi wed his longtime girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo-Messi in Argentina last week, quickly jetting to the Caribbean for their long-awaited honeymoon joined by their two children.

So where did the Barcelona legend decide to spend it? The twin-island destination of Antigua and Barbuda.

Argentine media reports placed him at the private-island Jumby Bay, A Rosewood Resort, confirmed by photos posted by Messi himself on Facebook.

Messi also shared a video taken on the beach.

It’s a major coup for Antigua and Barbuda, which has been significantly ramping up its tourism efforts (and was named Caribbean Destination of the Year by Caribbean Journal in 2016).

Messi and his family next met up with fellow star footballer Luis Suarez and his wife Sofi Balbi, with Suarez sharing a photo of the group together on the island of St. Barth.

That included a stop on the island’s picturesque St. Jean beach, a photo of which Roccuzzo shared on her own Instagram account.

The above photo was taken enjoying the sand at the lovely Eden Rock St Barths resort.
