The Best Cigar Shop in Barbados

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - October 30, 2016

Tucked away in Barbados’ Limegrove Lifestyle Centre is a sanctuary.

Inside a storefront on the second floor of this luxury shopping complex on the island’s famous Platinum Coast is La Casa del Habano.

There are 146 of these shops around the world, official outposts of Habanos SA, the official global promotion and distribution company for Cuban cigars.

And this one, which is one of just seven in the Caribbean that are not in Cuba, is a veritable oasis of luxury.

The humidor at La Casa del Habano in Barbados.

Set in a sleek, dark-walled spot, there are all the elements of a great afternoon: a full-service bar with a wide range of rums and whiskies; large leather lounge chairs; espresso and, yes, a large walk-in humidor with a nice selection of boxes and individual smokes (along with rare ashtrays, humidors and other Habanos accessories).

Given the new regulations that removed limits on bringing Cuban cigars back to the US, it’s a must-stop for both travelers and cruise passengers.

There is a seriously good portfolio of rums here, including some very hard to find varieties like Diplomatico Single Vintage.

But provisioning your home humidor is a secondary concern here: because this is a simply superb place to smoke.
