The Caribbean’s newest overwater bungalow have officially opened their doors.
The new “Palafitos” Overwater Bungalows at the El Dorado Maroma Resort by Karisma debuted this weekend on the Caribbean coast of Mexico.
The first guests checked in on Sept. 1.
There are a total of 30 suites in the first phase of the overwater project, with each including glass-bottom floors, direct ladder access to the ocean, outdoor showers, private infinity pools, indoor Jacuzzis and oversized decks with lounge chairs.
The resort has also opened a nearby overwater restaurant and grill that’s part of the resort’s all-inclusive plan.
The Palafitos are the first overwater bungalows on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, and among just a few in the wider Caribbean Basin, with the rest concentrated in the Bocas del Toro section of Panama.
Sandals is also planning to debut Overwater Bungalows at its Sandals Royal Caribbean resort in Jamaica, with plans to open Nov. 16. They are now bookable.
Another overwater project is currently in development by Viceroy at a resort development in Panama slated to open in 2018.
