Caribbean hotel occupancy continues to struggle so far in 2016, according to the newest data from STR.
The region’s hotels reported hotel occupancy of 64.7 percent in June, down 6.1 percent compared to June 2015.
That was the single-largest decline in occupancy of any month so far this year, leaving occupancy for 2016 at 70.1 percent, down 3.5 percent from the first half of 2015.
Average daily rates also plummeted, with an 8.4 percent drop in June to $179.48 and a 14 percent fall in RevPar (revenue per available room) to $116.20.
STR’s data surveyed 1,926 hotels comprising 235,895 rooms in the wider region.
