How to Live on the Beach in Bequia

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - January 28, 2016

Bequia — it’s one of the most charming islands in the Caribbean, a beachy, laid-back, eclectic place in the Grenadines.

And while staying there is great, why not get the best of both worlds: your own villa with hotel service?

That’s where the Firefly Villas Bequia come in, a new collection of residences on a private beachfront enclave of a 30-acre tropical plantation in Bequia.

And yes, there are perks: the villas have the backing of the Firefly Hotel Bequia.

The villas are priced from $630,000 USD.

The enclave, which stretches from the sand to a lush interior, has been divided into nine private-island style clusters, each of which are elevated two feet above ground to afford views across the beach, sea and plantation.

The villas are being developed by Bequia Development Ltd, in partnership with Firefly Hotel Bequia and its sister hotel, Firefly Hotel Mustique. (For more on the villas, click here)

“Firefly Villas Bequia offers the fortunate few buyers the opportunity to purchase a brand new home in one of the world’s most desirable locations, with the peace of mind that everything from maintaining to renting out your villa is handled by a highly experienced team which is always on hand,” says Walter Zephirin, managing director of London-based 7th Heaven Properties.

The villas, which are designed by Swedish architect Olle Rex, will include 1,600 feet of living space and up to six bedrooms, with open plan interiors, private terraces, private pools and outstanding views of the sea.

“The villas will be built in harmony with Bequia’s stunning landscape, in a style which perfectly balances contemporary European architecture with the elegance of classic West Indian design,” Rex says.

“We are delighted to unveil the launch of Firefly Villas. Guests are often sad to have to leave us,” said Elizabeth Clayton, owner of Firefly Hotel Bequia and Firefly Hotel Mustique. “Now, with these new home ownership opportunities, they won’t have to.”
