Your Own Piragua Concierge in Puerto Rico

It’s snowing in Puerto Rico.

OK, not literally.

But snow cones, locally known as piragua, are now being offered at one of the island’s best-known hotels, El Conquistador Resort and Las Casitas Village, where a “piragua concierge” serves the Puerto Rican frozen novelty from a cart that roves the resorts’ Coquí Water Park.

Made of shaved ice drizzled with fruit-flavored syrup, the treat is similar to the traditional American snow cone but shaped like a pyramid (its name is a combination of the Spanish words for “pyramid” and “water”), and traditionally sold by vendors known as piragüeros.

The resort’s kid-friendly flavors include coconut, mango and watermelon, to which you can add toppings such as cotton candy, gummy worms, sour patch kids, and whipped cream. Think you’re too old for such frozen frivolities? Think again. There’s also an adults-only mojito variation, made with local rum, coconut, mojito syrup and lime juice.
