Haiti’s burgeoning tourism sector is getting a major boost, thanks to a partnership between the Ministry of Tourism and vacation resource CheapCaribbean.com.

The Ministry said executives from CheapCaribbean, an Apple Leisure Group company, have spent the last few months visiting Haiti to inspect hotel properties both in the capital, Port-au-Prince and the resort area of Cote des Arcadins.

“Haiti is a fascinating destination with plenty to offer travelers seeking a unique escape unlike your typical sun and sand vacation,” said Steve Dumaine, the company’s president. “Haitians are a warm and vibrant people with a deep sense of artistry and a proud culture that has not been impacted by development. While overcoming common misperceptions of Haiti will be a challenge, the reality of the situation on the ground is very different from the images Americans remember from news coverage of 2010’s devastating earthquake.”

The company has partnered with the 68-room Moulin sur Mer beach resort in Montrouis to kick off its offerings; the property has a PADI diving centre and a marina.

Apple Leisure Group’s CEO, Alex Zozaya, has been a major advocate for Haiti’s tourism potential.
