Carnival Corporation looked to an unlikely spokesman for its Super Bowl ad on Sunday: former United States President John F Kennedy.

The global cruise company’s Super Bowl commercial, called “Come Back to the Sea,” featured images of Carnival ships, cruisers, beach scenes and the like, with the voiceover being a recorded speech by Kennedy.

Kennedy gave the speech in 1962 in Newport, when he and First Lady Jackie Kennedy were on hand on Sept. 15 to watch the America’s Cup race. (The New York Yacht Club won the Cup that year).

“We are tied to the ocean,” he said. “And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch it we are going back from whence we came,” he said.
