Delta Airlines will be returning to St Croix in the December, and the carrier will be operating service longer than initially planned.

The new service, which will launch Dec. 20, will be extended through Aug. 15, according to the US Virgin Islands Department of Tourism. It was initially only set to last through mid-May.

“Delta’s return to St. Croix is great news and adding more flights will positively impact the local economy,” said Beverly Nicholson-Doty, Commissioner of Tourism for the US Virgin Islands.

The weekly service will operate between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Henry E Rohlsen Airport in St Croix on Saturdays.

“To help attract more people to the Virgin Islands, we’re going back to Atlanta this month to continue spreading the word about travel to St. Croix with Delta’s increased flights,” Nicholson-Doty said.

The service will operate on MD-88 planes with 149 seats.
