Dominican Republic: Tourist Stopover Arrivals Up 8.4 Percent in 2014

The Dominican Republic’s tourism boom continues.

The region’s leading tourism destination received just under 2.7 million tourist stopover arrivals in the first half of 2014, an 8.4 percent improvement over the same period in 2013, according to new data from the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

The country’s numbers were buoyed by a very strong summer period, which saw a 13.8 percent increase in stopover arrivals over the start of the summer period in 2013.

The Dominican Republic also saw a 6.1 percent increase in stopover arrivals in the winter season of 2014.

The country easily received the most tourist stopover arrivals of any country in the region in the first half; Cuba was second with a total of 1.48 million arrivals.
