The government of St Vincent and the Grenadines will place “major emphasis” on infrastructural development this year, Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne said in his recent Throne Speech.

Sir Frederick said that, despite the crippling December storms that caused “significant damage” in the country, the government would “continue to embark on its planned projects.”

St Vincent and the Grenadines has embarked on a major infrastructure push in recent years, highlighted by its planned international airport project.

The Argyle International Airport project, which is being funded in part by the government of Taiwan, is slated for completion by the end of 2014.

If completed, it would allow international jets to land in the country, something which has heretofore been impossible at St Vincent’s existing ET Joshua airport.

Currently, only regional planes like those operated by LIAT and SVG Air can land in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
