Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller held talks Monday with Cuban President Raul Castro.

The two met in the context of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States’ summit this week in the Cuban capital.

According to a statement from Simpson Miller’s office, the meeting discussed “regional issues,” including the planned CARICOM/Cuba Summit.

A Cuban statement said the two sides also addressed issues including sport, construction and health, among others.

Simpson Miller, who began  a four-day visit to Cuba on Sunday, was one of a host of regional leaders in Havana for the event, which is being accompanied by several side meetings and conferences.

The 33-member regional grouping was formed in Venezuela in 2011.

This year’s conference theme is “The struggle against hunger, poverty and the inequalities in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

Castro is currently CELAC’s President Pro Tempore.
