A delegation from China’s Qianhai Special Economic Zone will be making a visit to the British Virgin Islands beginning Jan. 9, according to the government.

The group, which will be joined by officials of the municipality of Shenzhen in the Guangong province, will be in the territory until Jan. 12.

The delegation will meet with local stakeholders to discuss cooperation in areas like financial services, the economy, culture and education.

The delegation will be led by Dr Wang Rong, party chief of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee.

In a statement, the government said Shenzhen presented “an opportunity not just for cooperation on financial services but also in tourism and cultural matters including education.”

“This shows that BVI continues to be highly regarded in China in financial services,” the government said.

The visit will include meetings with the Governor, Cabinet Ministers and other senior officials, along with the Tourist Board, Ports Authority and Financial Services Commission.

The delegation will also be visiting Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke.

The British Virgin Islands set up a new office in Hong Kong last year specifically targeted to the Asian market.
