A “major investor” has been contacted about developing lands at Chatham Bay on Union Island in the Grenadines, according to Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.

The government has received the green light to take possession of the lands, following a nearly eight-year-long court battle.

Gonsalves announced at a recent news conference that the lands had been forfeited to the government of St Vincent and the Grenadines through the Alien Land Holding Regulation Act.

The Prime Minister said that the government would now be taking steps to develop the property, and is “interested in partnering with local hoteliers to establish properties in other areas.”

Union Island is located at the southern end of the Grenadines, just north of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, both of which are part of Grenada’s territory.
