Trinidad native George Bovell took the bronze medal in the men’s 50M freestyle this weekend at the 15th FINA World Championships Barcelona.
The 30-year-old Bovell, who was born in Port of Spain, finished in 21.51 seconds, behind Brazil’s Cesar Cielo Filho and Russia’s Vladimir Morozov.
He won the bronze medal in the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
He has represented the country at four Olympic Games, beginning in 2000.
“I congratulate George Bovell on his World Championship bronze and for giving us another moment to celebrate,” Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar in a statement.
