Haitian officials were joined this week by members of the Latin American Energy Association for talks on the country’s energy sector.

Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe led the working meeting, joined by Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Energy Security, Rene Jean Jumeau and General Secretary of the Prime Minister Lucien Francoeur.

Also at the meeting was a delegation from the Spanish Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving, which has had a visiting mission in Haiti since Sunday.

The talks covered proposals for revitalizing Haiti’s energy sector, along with support for the finalization of the Haitian government’s energy policy.

Following the meeting, OLADE representatives from Cuba, Venezuela and Ecuador in particular said they “renewed their commitment” to cooperate with Haiti and identify better prospects in the energy sector for Haiti.
