St Kitts and Nevis has sworn in Sir Edmund Wickham as the twin-island federation’s new Governor General.

The Governor General succeed Sir Cuthbert Montraville Sebastian, announced his retirement at the end of December after 17 years.

“Sir Edmund, a trained economist, has used his extraordinary talents in a constant quest for both personal improvement and national advancement and development,” Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas said at the swearing-in. “And on both fronts he has succeeded beyond even what I am certain that even he might have imagined when he was just a young man filled with hopes, dreams, and boundless talent.”

Wickham was previously the managing director of the St Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank.

“Sir Edmund and Lady Hulda are the personification of propriety, dignity, accomplishment, and patriotism,” Douglas said. “They are examplars of what we, as the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, should all be.”
