Trinidad and Tobago and the Inter-American Development Bank are launching an IDB-funded Sustainable Energy Programme.

The plan, which is officially being launched on Friday, will create a Sustainable Energy Matrix and Framework for the country, with the help of an international consortium of consultants including the Centre of Partnerships for Development, Projekt-consult GmBH and LKS Ingenieria S Coop.

The consultants will provide Trinidad’s Energy Ministry with policy and technical support.

Since August, three technical missions have already been conducted with stakeholders in the country to lay the foundation for the creation of the sustainable energy framework.

The framework will have four main components: preparing the programme by developing a regulatory framework to promote green energy and carbon reduction; provision of technical assistance to the government in the area of energy efficiency, exploration of alternatives for renewable energy funding, with a special focus on Tobago and specific studies to point the way forward for future investment in green energy in the country.
