St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas has accepted the letters of credence from new Indian High Commissioner Puran Mal Meena.

The Indian envoy is also the High Commissioner to Guyana, Antigua and CARICOM.

“We are separated by distance but history binds us together,” the Indian envoy said. “Both the countries peacefully and successfully emerged as democratic nations from the colonial past and today we share common views on most of the issues in [the] United Nations and other international organizations.”

Meena also presented the letters of recall of his predecessor.

“I take this opportunity to convey to your Excellency the warm greetings and best wishes from the Honourable President of India to your Excellency for the personal well-being and for the continued peace and prosperity of the people of your beautiful country of St Kitts and Nevis,” he said.

Meena said it was “heartening to know that the small Indian community in St Kitts and Nevis is engaged in small businesses and has progressed a lot and has helped in development of the economy of St Kitts and Nevis.”

He promised to further expand cooperation between the two countries.
