Antigua and Barbuda will be hosting a sports tourism venture with leading travel industry news site TravelMole dubbed the “Legends of Cricket” match.

The venture, which is being held in partnership with TravelMole, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority and Antigua’s Ministry of Tourism, will pit 15 tour operators and journalists (along with former professional English player Chris Schoffield) against some of the biggest stars of Antiguan cricket lore.

Antigua’s team will feature legends like Ridley Jacobs, Pernel Roxy Joseph, Carl Roberts, Wildin Cornwall and Frankie Francis. It will be captained by Winston Benjamin.

The TravelMole team, which will be hosted at the Verandah resort, will visit the Devil’s Bridge, the historic Nelson’s Dockyard and the Shirley Heights Lookout on its trip. They will be in the country from Oct. 20 to 24.

“Antigua and Barbuda as a Caribbean tourist destination, with its sporting history rich in cricket, will only stand to benefit from such a partnership with TravelMole,” Antigua Tourism Minister John Maginley said in a release. “We can never pay in dollar value for the kind of exposure that the twin-island destination will receive via such an online marketing company that publishes 15 eNewsletters and broadcasts hundreds of videos to its over 450,000 travel and tourism industry professional registered members — as well as its 30 million consumers in 132 countries.”

The match, which is free of cost, will take place at the Rising Sun Cricket Grounds on Oct. 22 at 5:30 PM.
