Jamaican MP Resigns as Shadow Minister Following Corruption Charge

Jamaican Member of Parliament for West Portland Daryl Vaz has resigned as the Shadow Minister for Information and Communication Technology and Digital Society Development following a charge of breaking an anti-corruption law.

Vaz, Jamaica’s former Information and Telecommunications Minister, has been accused, along with Senior Police Superintendent James Forbes of corruption regarding alleged interaction with a police traffic stop involving a third party.

Vaz said he was simply inquiring about a police case against a friend.

The charges come under Jamaica’s Corruption Prevention Act.

Vaz and Forbes have denied wrongdoing.
