Brazil could soon sign off on a partial scope agreement with St Kitts and Nevis, according to Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas.

According to Douglas, he was personally informed by Brazilian Ambassador Miguel Magalhaes that a Brazilian official will be arriving in Basseterre to sign off on the conclusion of negotiations on the deal.

“That will be a most historic day for the Kittitian and Nevisian manufacturing sector, which will now have the scope to access the huge Brazilian market with our electronic products manufactured here in St Kitts and Nevis,” Douglas said.

Douglas said the move would help diversify the federation’s export strategy and improve its profile in international trade, providing “greater employment opportunities for our young men and women who have done so well over the years with their high-quality products that have penetrated markets around the world and projected St Kitts and Nevis as the largest exporter from the Eastern Caribbean to the United States.”

“We must be grateful to the government and the people of Brazil as this development provides the basis for the continued improvement and expansion of the CARICOM/MERCOSUR relationship,” he said.
