The visit to Haiti by the Caribbean Community’s Bureau of Heads of Government this week culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding covering a number of areas, including tourism, agriculture, public health, capacity building in government agencies for investment and transportation.
According to CARICOM Chairman and Suriname President Desi Bouterse, the visit was “most rewarding,” given the breadth of officials with whom the bureau met.
Bouterse also announced that a consignment of three containers of anti-cholera drugs had been delivered to Haiti’s Ministry of Health “in the fight against the epidemic.”
At a press conference, Martelly urged Haitian businesses to take advantage of an agreement that allows some products to enter the rest of CARICOM duty-free for a three-year period which began last year.
