Tacking St Lucia’s crime problem is a major priority for the government, new Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony said this week.

Anthony said he would focus on sustaining efforts at crime prevention, detection and crime solving, including increasing the capacity of the police force and strengthening the justice system.

“We intend to take a multifaceted approach to citizen security and will see interventions at the level of the police force and the justice system,” he said. “We will improve the capacity of the police force to prevent, detect and solve crime, we intend to increase the capacity of the state to prosecute crime and we want to inculcate in our communities low tolerance for anti-social behavior.”
