American actor Steven Seagal has jumped into the St Lucian political fray, endorsing a candidate for the country’s parliament.

Seagal, who has played in the past with his jazz band at the Saint Lucia Jazz Festival, put out a video endorsing Ausbert d’Auvergne, who is running for Parliament in the Dennery North constituency for the National Development Movement against Saint Lucia Labour Party candidate Shawn Edward and the United Workers Party’s Andy Daniel.

“I’m asking you to vote for my dear friend Ausbert,” Seagal says in the video. “He has been my close and loyal friend for many, many years, and I know him to be not a good man but a great man,” he said. “Know that my friend Ausbert has the knowledge, the experience and the international connections to bring investment to the valley and to create jobs and bring prosperity to you and your families.”

“I promise you that I will do everything to support my friend,” he said.
