Canada Helps Barbados Defence Force Go High-Tech

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 18, 2011 - 8:33 am

The information technology capability of the Barbados Defence Force has gotten a boost, thanks to the donation of $244,530 in state-of-the-art computer equipment from the Canadian government.

Canadian High Commissioner Ruth Archibald handed over the hardware to BDF Chief of Staff Colonel Alvin Quintyne.

This was the second tranche of equipment given to the BDF, Archibald said, and it would replace an earlier set of hardware donated six ears ago. It was part of an overall assistance programme that had seen the creation of an IT Centre of Excellence at the BDF.

The total cost of the project had been funded with about $440,000 over the years.

The IT initiative is part of the Military Training and Cooperation Programme between Barbados and Canada which has spanned some 15 years.
