Haiti President Michel Martelly has nominated politician Evans Paul as the country’s next Prime Minister.

Paul has been tapped to succeed former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe following the latter’s resignation earlier this month.

Paul, the former mayor of Port-au-Prince, needs to be confirmed by the country’s legislature.

In a statement released by the National Palace, Martelly said the decision came “in consultation with the chairmen of the Senate and the House of Representatives.”

Paul is a former presidential candidate, having campaigned in 2006.
