Dominican Republic Nears 2.5 Million Tourists in 2021

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - August 3, 2021

The Dominican Republic is approaching 2.5 million tourist arrivals so far in 2021, according to new data from the country’s Ministry of Tourism.

That’s the highest number of any Caribbean destination this year.

It’s also contributed more than $2.4 million to the country’s economy, according to Tourism Minister David Collado.

So far, 2,470,282 visitors have arrived in the Dominican Republic through the end of July, more than the entirety of 2020, Collado said.

Another 2.5 million or so visitors are expected to arrive in the second half of 2021, he said.

Among other indicators, flights, routes and frequencies doubled in 2021.

“We have been able to demonstrate that with bold policies and collective effort we have been able, not only to withstand the impact of Covid-19, but also that we have managed to position our country on a better competitive map throughout the Caribbean and Latin America region,” said Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader.
