St Maarten Continues Cruising Rebound

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - July 21, 2021

Long one of the Caribbean’s busiest cruise ports, St Maarten is in the midst of a full-fledged cruising comeback.

Six cruise ships will be calling at Port St Maarten through the end of this month alone, according to officials.

That includes Celebrity Cruises’ Edge and Summit; Seabourn’s Odyssey; and Windstar’s Star Breeze ships.

Seabourn Odyssey will also be resuming its home-porting operations out of St Maarten later this season, according to a statement from the Port.

“Port Management continues to maintain dialogue with the cruise industry and based on tentative developments, there is great potential for thousands of passengers to arrive at the destination between August and December,” the Port’s management said in a statement. ““Most cruise lines have already announced full vessel deployments by the end of year.  We continue to be very confident based on current trends that the upcoming five months and going into 2022 will be very promising for the destination as together we navigate through the pandemic.”

St Maarten was also home to the first Caribbean cruise since the onset of the pandemic, when Celebrity Millennium began homeporting from the destination in early June.
