Marriott Is Opening Another Hotel in Guyana

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - February 16, 2020

Marriott is opening a second hotel in Guyana, the result of the country’s booming oil industry.

Following the existing Marriott in Georgetown, a new AC Marriott has broken ground close to Guyana’s Eugene Correia International Airport.

The 150-room hotel, which will be joined by 20,000 square feet of office and retail space, is slated for completion by 2023, according to Guyana government officials.

The estimated $75 million project, led by Trinidad’s John Aboud, is the result of an agreement with the National Industry and Commercial Investments Limited company.

“We are confident that the government and people of Guyana will certainly benefit from this major hotel investment,” said Colvin Heath-London, CEO of NICIL.

Marriott opened its first Guyana hotel in 2015.

Guyana, which has discovered one of the world’s largest offshore oil reserves, continues to see surging demand, including a slate of new airlift from carriers like JetBlue and American Airlines.

“Our government welcomes and supports investments of this nature,” said Haimraj Rajkumar , Guyana’s Minister of Business. “The coming to Guyana of AC Marriot is an investment the government is applauding.”
