Carnival is planning a significant transformation of its Carnival Triumph ship next year, the company announced this week in a statement.

The cruise line plans to spend nearly $200 million on a bow-to-stern makeover of Triumph that will see the ship renamed Carnival Sunrise.

The two-month dry dock will begin March 1 in Spain, with plans to add all of Carnival Cruise Line’s branded food and beverage concepts, along with updated staterooms.

Carnival Sunrise will reenter service in April 2019 in Norfolk before launching a summer of seven and 14-day departures from New York, according to the company.

Sunrise will ultimately move to New York in October of 2019.

“The introduction of Carnival Sunrise will provide our guests with an array of exciting dining, bar and entertainment choices. The new Carnival Sunrise is part of our multi-billion-dollar ship enhancement program that is transforming our fleet on an unprecedented scale,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
