More Nonstop Flights Coming to St Thomas

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 24, 2018

St Thomas is about to get another big airlift boost thanks to an expansion by Spirit Airlines.

The low-cost carrier will be launching three-times-weekly flights from Orlando International Airport to St Thomas’ Cyril E. King Airport in the United States Virgin Islands.

The flights will launch Nov. 8, according to a statement from the company, with roundtrip service on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

“Working alongside our colleagues at the Virgin Islands Port Authority, we continue to invest heavily in our airlift development strategy and value our partnership with Spirit as they continue to prioritize travel to and from our Territory,” said Beverly Nicholson-Doty, Commissioner of Tourism for the US Virgin Islands.

The new service comes after Spirit recently expanded its flights from Fort Lauderdale to St Thomas with daily service in April.

“These new flights represent the fruit of the hard work of our administration to add new service and increase flights to our destination,” said U.S. Virgin Islands Governor Kenneth E. Mapp. “New flights increase affordable opportunities for Virgin Islanders to travel to and from the mainland, while helping our bread and butter tourism industry recover.”
